Simple Present Tense — Day 2

Focus: Sentence structure • verb forms • importance of subject • how small mistakes change meaning

This lesson is part of a 6-day Simple Present Tense mastery series — designed like a clear, reader-friendly English grammar book.

🎯 Quick Recall from Day 1

✔ Simple Present talks about habits, daily actions, facts, and permanent situations
✔ It does NOT describe actions happening right now
✔ Correct thinking is more important than memorizing rules

Now we move from understanding to building correct sentences with confidence.

 Basic Structure of Simple Present

Subject + Verb (base form) + Rest of the sentence

The verb is important — but the subject decides how the verb behaves.

Subject — The Real Leader of the Sentence

  • I / You / We / They
  • He / She / It / Any singular noun

When the subject is clear, half of your grammar problems disappear.

 Rule 1: I / You / We / They → Base Verb

• I work every day.
• You speak English well.
• We live in Hyderabad.
• They play cricket.

👉 No extra letters. 👉 No confusion.

 Rule 2: He / She / It → Verb + s / es

• He works every day.
• She speaks English clearly.
• It rains heavily in July.
• Ramesh plays cricket.

👉 The meaning stays the same.
👉 Only the verb form changes because of the subject.

Why “s / es” Is Necessary

❌ He work in a bank. (sounds careless)
✅ He works in a bank. (sounds professional)

Grammar is not only about meaning — it reflects education, clarity, and confidence.

Deep Understanding: Subject Controls the Verb

• I work in a company.
• You work in a company.
• We work in a company.
• They work in a company.

• He works in a company.
• She works in a company.
• Ramesh works in a company.

👉 Action is the same.
👉 Meaning is the same.
👉 The subject alone changes the verb.

 Spoken English Reality

❌ He work in IT.
❌ She teach maths.

✅ He works in IT.
✅ She teaches maths.

People may understand both — but they judge your level by the second one.

A Simple Check Before You Speak

“Is my subject He / She / It?”

YES → add s / es
NO → use base verb

This single check avoids nearly 80% of common mistakes.

Thinking Practice

• My mother ___ (cook) well.
• We ___ (wake up) early on weekdays.
• The shop ___ (open) at 10 AM.
• I ___ (need) more practice.

👉 Do not rush.
👉 Let your mind choose the correct verb.

Confidence Tip:
Simple Present Tense is not basic English — it is the foundation of the English language.

✔ What You Should Feel After Day 2

• I can clearly identify the subject
• I know when to use s / es
• I feel more control while speaking English
