 Present Continuous Tense — Day 2

Negative Sentences (am not / is not / are not)


 Quick Revision (Day 1)

In Day 1, you learned:

  • Present Continuous is used for actions happening now
  • Structure: Subject + am / is / are + verb + ing

❌ An action is NOT happening now


❓ What is a Negative Sentence?

A negative sentence says that:

  • The action is not happening
  • The action is stopped
  • The action is not true now

๐Ÿ‘‰ We only add NOT — the tense structure stays the same.


 Golden Structure (Negative)

Subject + am / is / are + NOT + verb + ing

⚠️ Never remove the helping verb.


 Helping Verb + NOT

Positive Negative
am am not
is is not (isn't)
are are not (aren't)

 Examples — Observe Slowly

  • I am working.

  • She is cooking.

    I am not working

 Simple Comparison

Sentence Meaning
She is reading. Action happening now
She is not reading. Action NOT happening now
