Yes / No Questions (Am / Is / Are)

❓ What is a Yes / No Question?

A Yes / No question is a question that can be answered with:

  • Yes
  • No

๐Ÿ‘‰ We change the position of the helping verb.


 Golden Rule (Very Important)

Am / Is / Are + Subject + verb + ing ?

⚠️ Do NOT use do / does here.


 Sentence Change Pattern

Statement Question
She is working. Is she working?
They are playing. Are they playing?
I am studying. Am I studying?

 Examples — Observe Carefully

  • I am learning English.
    Am I learning English?

๐Ÿ”น With He / She / It

  • He is sleeping.
    Is he sleeping?
  • She is cooking.
    Is she cooking?

๐Ÿ”น With You / We / They

  • You are listening.
    Are you listening?
  • They are coming.
    Are they coming?

 How to Answer (Very Simple)

Answer using the same helping verb:

  • Yes, subject + am / is / are
  • No, subject + am not / is not / are not

Examples:

  • Is she working?
    ๐Ÿ‘‰ Yes, she is.
  • Are they playing?
    ๐Ÿ‘‰ No, they are not.

 Common Spoken Mistakes

  • ❌ Is she working now? (OK)
    ❌ Does she working? (Wrong)
  • ❌ Are they play?
    Are they playing?
  • ❌ Am I study?
    Am I studying?

Practice Section
