 Introduction

Many English learners make small mistakes while speaking. These mistakes can change the meaning or make the sentence sound unnatural. In this lesson, we correct the most common mistakes with clear grammar rules. Each sentence includes English correction, Kannada meaning, and pronunciation for easy learning.


1. I didn’t go to school yesterday.

Incorrect: I didn’t went to school yesterday.
Correct: I didn’t go to school yesterday.

✔ Explanation

After “didn’t”, always use the base verb (go, eat, come). Never use “went / ate / came” after “didn’t”.

✔ Kannada Meaning

ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನೆ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.

Pronunciation: nānu ninne shālege hōgalilla.


2. She has finished her homework.

Incorrect: She finished her homework now.
Correct: She has finished her homework.

✔ Explanation

Use present perfect (has/have + V3) when an action is completed recently and its result is important now.

✔ Kannada Meaning

ಅವಳು ತನ್ನ ಗೃಹಪಾಠವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.

Pronunciation: avaḷu tanna gṛhapāṭhavannu mugiṣikoṇḍiddāḷe.


3. They are playing outside now.

Incorrect: They play outside now.
Correct: They are playing outside now.

✔ Explanation

Use “am/is/are + verb-ing” for actions happening right now.

✔ Kannada Meaning

ಅವರು ಈಗ ಹೊರಗೆ ಆಟ ಆಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Pronunciation: avaru īga horage āṭa āḍuttiddāre.


4. I have been studying for two hours.

Incorrect: I am studying for two hours.
Correct: I have been studying for two hours.

✔ Explanation

Use present perfect continuous (have/has been + verb-ing) when an activity started in the past and is still continuing.

✔ Kannada Meaning

ನಾನು ಎರಡು ಗಂಟೆಯಿಂದ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

Pronunciation: nānu eraḍu gaṇṭeyinda ōduttiddēne.


5. He will meet you tomorrow.

Incorrect: He meet you tomorrow.
Correct: He will meet you tomorrow.

✔ Explanation

Use “will + base verb” to talk about future actions or plans.

✔ Kannada Meaning

ಅವನು ನಾಳೆ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Pronunciation: avanu nāḷe ninnannu bhēti māḍuttāne.


 Additional Learning Notes (English + Kannada)

1. Use of DIDN’T

Rule: After “didn’t”, always use base verb.

Examples: didn’t go, didn’t eat, didn’t speak.

Kannada: “didn’t” ಆದ ನಂತರ verb ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ first form ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬೇಕು.

2. Use of HAS/HAVE + V3

Used for recently completed actions with present relevance.

Kannada: ಈಗಷ್ಟೇ ಮುಗಿದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

3. Use of AM/IS/ARE + V-ing

Used for actions happening right now.

Kannada: ಈಗ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸುವುದು.

4. Use of WILL

Used for future plans, promises, predictions.

Kannada: ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Kannada Explanation:

English “V” ಉಚ್ಚಾರಣೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಮೇಲಿನ ಹಲ್ಲುಗಳು ಕೆಳ ತುಟಿಯನ್ನು ಸಣ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಸಬೇಕು. “B” ನಲ್ಲಿ ತುಟಿಗಳು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ನಂತರ ಓಪನ್ ಆಗುತ್ತವೆ.
