Core Structure Reminder

Subject + was / were + verb + ing

Subject Helping Verb
I / He / She / It was
You / We / They were

๐Ÿ”น BIFURCATION – TYPE 1: Wrong Helping Verb

Mistake: Using was / were incorrectly

    ✅ She was cooking food.
  • ❌ They was playing outside.
    ✅ They were playing outside.
  • ❌ We was watching TV.
    ✅ We were watching TV.

Rule: Singular → was, Plural → were

๐Ÿ”น BIFURCATION – TYPE 2: Missing “-ing” Form

Mistake: Using base verb instead of verb + ing

  • ❌ I was read a book.
    ✅ I was reading a book.
  • ❌ She was cook dinner.
    ✅ She was cooking dinner.
  • ❌ They were play cricket.
    ✅ They were playing cricket.
  • ❌ We were watch a movie.

Rule: Past Continuous always needs verb + ing

๐Ÿ”น BIFURCATION – TYPE 3: Using Simple Past Instead of Continuous

Mistake: Using V² instead of continuous form

✅ I was watching TV at 8 PM.
  • ❌ She cooked when I called her.
✅ She was cooking when I called her.
  • ❌ They played when it started raining.
✅ They were playing when it started raining.

Tip: If the action was **in progress at a specific time**, use Past Continuous.

๐Ÿ”น BIFURCATION – TYPE 4: Two Actions – Wrong Usage

One long action + one short action

  • ❌ I was sleeping when the phone was ringing.
✅ I was sleeping when the phone rang.
  • ❌ She was studying when her friend was coming.
✅ She was studying when her friend came.

Rule:
