• Avoid mixing Simple Past with Past Continuous

 Correct Negative Structure

Subject + was / were + not + verb + ing

👉 not always comes after was / were
👉 Main verb must always be in -ing form

🔹 BIFURCATION – TYPE 1: Missing “not”

• ❌ I was playing cricket. (negative meaning intended)
  ✅ I was not playing cricket.
• ❌ She was attending the meeting. (negative meaning)
  ✅ She was not attending the meeting.
• ❌ They were watching TV. (negative sense)
  ✅ They were not watching TV.

Rule: Without not, the sentence is NOT negative.

🔹 BIFURCATION – TYPE 2: Wrong Verb Form After “not”

• ❌ I was not play cricket.
  ✅ I was not playing cricket.
• ❌ She was not cook food.
  ✅ She was not cooking food.
• ❌ They were not study English.
  ✅ They were not studying English.

Rule: After was / were not, verb must be + ing.

Rule: Singular → was not Plural → were not

  ✅ I was not watching TV.
• ❌ She did not cooking dinner.
  ✅ She was not cooking dinner.
• ❌ They did not playing football.

Important: ❌ did not → Simple Past ✅ was/were not → Past Continuous

• ❌ At 9 PM, I was not sleep.
  ✅ At 9 PM, I was not sleeping.
• ❌ Yesterday evening, she was not study.
  ✅ Yesterday evening, she was not studying.
• ❌ At that time, they were not work.
  ✅ At that time, they were not working.
